The short version
- You must be 16 or older to use Open Field.
- Games are organized by players, not by us. Soccer carries a risk of injury, and you play at your own risk.
- Be respectful. There's no tolerance for harassment or objectionable content, and we act on reports within 24 hours.
- Any money for a game is paid between players, outside the app.
This summary is for convenience; the full terms below are what apply.
These terms are an agreement between you and David Coggin, the individual developer who runs Open Field ("we", "us"). They cover your use of the Open Field app. By creating an account or using Open Field, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Open Field.
1. Who Can Use Open Field
You must be at least 16 years old to use Open Field. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms with you. You can't use Open Field if we've previously removed you from it, or if you're barred from using it under the law.
2. Your Account
Give accurate information when you sign up, keep your password secret, and don't share your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account. We create your username from your name; you can change it once every 30 days, and it must not impersonate anyone or be offensive. Tell us at decosdevlab@gmail.com if you think someone else is using your account.
3. Games Happen in Person
Open Field helps players organize and find pickup games. We don't organize, run, supervise or referee games, and we don't own, inspect or control venues. Groups and events are created by players, and we don't check who players are or how they behave.
Soccer is a physical sport with a real risk of injury. You take part in any game at your own risk and choose for yourself whether a game, a venue, the weather and the other players are safe for you. Play within your ability, follow the venue's rules and the law, and look after yourself and others. Meet people you don't know in public places and use your judgment.
Information in the app, such as an event's time, venue, cost, number of players or who's going, comes from players and may be wrong or out of date.
4. Money Between Players
Some events show a cost per player, set by the organizer. Open Field doesn't handle payments: any money is paid between players and organizers, outside the app. We aren't responsible for payments, refunds or disputes between players.
5. Your Content
"Your content" means what you add to Open Field: your name and username, group and event details, rules, notes, reports and anything else you enter. You're responsible for your content and confirm you have the right to post it.
You keep ownership of your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display and process it to run and improve Open Field: for example, to show your group's details to nearby players or your name on a roster. This license ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we need to keep under our Privacy Policy or the law.
6. Community Rules
We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. When using Open Field, don't:
- harass, bully, threaten, intimidate or stalk anyone, on or off the field;
- post content that is hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent, defamatory, illegal or otherwise objectionable;
- impersonate anyone, or create fake accounts, groups or events;
- use Open Field to spam, advertise, sell, or collect other players' information;
- share another person's private information without their permission;
- arrange anything illegal or dangerous, or encourage others to do so;
- cheat the player card or check-in, for example by faking your location;
- interfere with Open Field: probe, scan or test it for weaknesses, get around its limits or security, access it with automated tools, copy or reverse engineer it, or use it in a way that harms it or other players.
7. Reporting, Blocking and Moderation
You can report a player, group or event from its page, and block a player from their player card. Blocked players can't join groups you run, and you won't see their groups or events.
We review reports and act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours. We may remove content, remove players from groups, and suspend or delete accounts that break these terms or that we reasonably believe put players at risk, with or without notice. We may also filter words we consider offensive. We aren't obliged to monitor content, and we aren't responsible for content posted by players, but we take reports seriously. To reach us about a safety concern, email decosdevlab@gmail.com.
8. Groups and Organizers
An organizer runs a group: they can edit it, schedule and edit events, invite players, add players who show them their Player Code, mark who played, remove players (who then can't rejoin), hand the group over to another player, and delete it. Organizers must use these powers fairly and follow these terms. We aren't responsible for organizers' decisions, but you can report a group or organizer that breaks these terms.
Show your Player Code only to organizers you want to add you; you can reset it in the app at any time, and you can leave any group.
9. Ending Your Use
You can stop using Open Field at any time and delete your account in the app (Profile → Delete Account). If you run a group, hand it over or delete it first. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we must by law, or if we stop offering Open Field. Section 5 (the license for retained copies) and Sections 11 to 16 and 18 continue to apply after your account ends.
10. Our App
Open Field, including its design, name, logo, player card and software, belongs to us and is protected by law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms and the App Store's rules. If you send us feedback or ideas, we can use them without owing you anything.
11. Third-Party Services
Open Field uses services from other companies, such as Apple Maps, and can open other apps, such as Maps, Mail and the share sheet. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we aren't responsible for them.
12. Disclaimers
Open Field is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We don't promise that Open Field will always be available, error-free or secure, that information in it is accurate, or that any game, venue or player is safe. We may change, pause or stop any feature at any time.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of Open Field, from games, venues or other players, or from content posted by others, even if we were told such damages were possible. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to Open Field is limited to US $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you; nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where the law doesn't allow it.
14. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and compensate us for claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) brought by others that arise from your content, your conduct at or around games, or your breaking these terms or the law.
15. Apple
If you downloaded Open Field from Apple's App Store:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Open Field and its content.
- Your use of Open Field must also follow the App Store's Usage Rules, and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies alongside these terms.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Open Field.
- If Open Field fails to meet any applicable warranty, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Open Field. Open Field is free.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims about Open Field, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging any claim that Open Field or your use of it infringes someone else's intellectual property.
- You confirm that you aren't located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you aren't on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, once you accept them, may enforce them against you.
Questions, complaints or claims about Open Field go to us at decosdevlab@gmail.com.
16. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Tennessee, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts. Before going to court, please email us so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as Open Field changes. We'll change the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Open Field after changes take effect, you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later. You can't transfer these terms to anyone else; we may transfer them to a new owner of Open Field. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Open Field.
